Magstim Range of Magnetic Nerve Stimulators

Magnetic stimulation induces a small transient electrical current in human tissue by a very strong magnetic field created by a stimulating coil held close to the area of the body to be stimulated. It is non-invasive and is used in diagnosis, prognosis and therapy. It is able to stimulate the human nerves easily and with less discomfort than conventional electrical stimulation. The Magstim range of magnetic nerve stimulators are developed under an exclusive license, with the University of Sheffield, where magnetic nerve stimulation was first achieved in the early 1980's. The Magstim Model 200 was launched in 1986 and has been regularly updated to become the world market leader in magnetic nerve stimulation. Subsequent magnetic nerve stimulator models have been designed to broaden the range of applications of this technique, in particular in rapid rate stimulation.
